We usually respond within a month
IntraFish is a leading global news organization dedicated to the business of seafood. Our team of journalists provides the breaking news, insight and analysis demanded by our readership around the world – unrivalled business intelligence in an ever-changing market.
We are seeking a journalist to break news that readers cannot find elsewhere and to frame these stories in the context that matters to our audience. Someone who is never satisfied by a press release.
Your strategic role:
This person will report and write about the companies and personalities that shape the exciting world of seafood – from Norwegian salmon farmers and hard-fought Arctic cod quotas to the €35 billion EU fish processing sector and the well-known supermarkets that sell their products. There is a whole world to explore among the start-ups driving tech innovation throughout the supply chain.
You will report directly into the Editor in Chief of Intrafish.
Your day-to-day:
- Provide fast and lively reporting on the global seafood industry, with a particular focus on Europe (including the United Kingdom, the European Union, Nordic countries and Russia)
- Cover scheduled news and industry events, including some travel.
- Generate a strong file of exclusive stories, original interviews and thought-provoking analysis that sets IntraFish apart from its competitors.
- Report breaking news – fast.
- Deliver ‘clean’ copy that requires minimal editing/rewriting.
- Work as part of a global team in news planning and generating story ideas.
- Optimise your stories to drive digital reader engagement.
Your background:
- Several years of reporting experience with a reputable business news organisation.
- A demonstrated ability to build a source network and break exclusive, high-impact news
- Sophisticated communication skills (knowledge of another European language is a plus)
- Strong writing and editing abilities, with close attention to detail
- Experience in digital journalism and an innovative approach to storytelling
- A desire and enthusiasm to learn and to develop as a business journalist.
Knowledge of seafood is not essential. More important are the ambition, curiosity and initiative to deliver original and compelling news stories faster – and better – than the competition.
We will consider applications even if you do not meet every single one of the above requirements, so do not be put off if you don’t match them perfectly!
