The seafood, aquaculture and fisheries industries are emerging as critical elements of future global food security, and at IntraFish.com, we are tracking this rapid growth and development with sharp business reporting and insightful analysis. This role will be joining an expert team of journalists based in the United Kingdom (our global headquarters), the United States, Norway, South America and Asia, and will work closely with colleagues across time zones to ensure that we are delivering our independent business news and analysis to readers around the globe.
This role needs to be based on the East Coast of the US, ideally out of Connecticut.
Your strategic role:
- You will be covering major multinational companies, the personalities behind them and the money shaping the future of the industry. It’s a beat made for a creative, ambitious business reporter who loves a great scoop and the fast pace of online news.
Your day-to-day:
- Apply strong news judgement and reader metrics to optimise coverage
- Working with reporters to craft reliably sourced stories that are properly contextualised.
- Publishing articles on our Intrafish.com website and Intrafish.com News app
- Write articles for our digital platforms and special editions
- Research and write a full range of business news, insight and commentary stories.
- Report with accuracy, to deadline and to appropriate length and style.
- Ensure IntraFish.com is a must-read website by delivering exclusive business news on the global seafood, aquaculture and fisheries industries
- Break high-value news quickly and accurately
- Collaborate with a diverse team of colleagues working in several countries
- Develop a network of sources and contacts
- Utilize social media platforms and SEO to extend our reach and discover new audiences
- Provide on-the-ground coverage of major conferences and events in the field
Your background:
- Strong news reporting, source development and people skills essential.
- A proven track record of generating compelling journalism in a fast-moving news environment
- Experience in editing
- Familiarity with analytics tools for measuring reader engagement
- Ability to work independently while taking guidance and direction from senior colleagues.
- Digital journalism skills and experience
- Good communication skills
- Energetic and self driven
- Ability to move between fast-moving breaking news and long-form features and interviews.
- Ability to work fast and accurately under pressure.
- Versatility and adaptability.
- Able to do some domestic and international travel.
